An affluent district in West London, Kensington is famous for its shopping, particularly on Kensington High Street. This is one of the busiest shopping areas in London, where such department stores as Barkers or Derry & Toms had existed since the turn of the last century. These stores have long been out of business, but the buildings still house several newer companies.

While these shops do make for great convenience if you live nearby, the traffic they create is less than ideal. However, in February of 2007 the area is to be included in the London congestion charge zone - an area where motorists are charged money to drive though sections of the city. As such, motor traffic will be cut down significantly in the area, making for both convenient shopping and a quieter neighborhood. Moving into the Kensington area of London, therefore, will become that much more attractive to those trying to avoid congestion.
