As we approach our own moving date  as we switch to a more spacious office to accommodate our business expansion, London Relocation Ltd. is evolving in other ways as well… Stay tuned for our NEW WEBSITE that we plan to launch in the coming weeks to give our image a fresh new facelift and provide you with more reader-friendly content and easier navigation through its pages. On this new website, you will also find our NEW SERVICE PACKAGES that will offer you a greater range of services, including pickup from the airport and short-term accommodations upon arrival.  These packaged offerings will be priced at different tiers, allowing you more choice in what you expect from our services and what works best for your budget. Regarding our expansion in staff, our aim is to better provide you with timely responses in fielding your initial enquiry, conducting your needs assessment, and scheduling your viewing appointment.  We will be able to accommodate greater volume in clients while simultaneously enhancing the time and quality of our focus on you and your needs alone. We think we’re already doing great (and our clients do, too, if you read our Testimonials…there are more in our blog under the Testimonials category), but we’re always aiming to be better.  Our business is finding people homes, something of utmost importance as a fundamental human need, and that is just something we can never be too good at!

Living in London – From Fine Print to the Finest of Printing

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Feed your brain.

Feed your brain.

To quote Rick Steve’s:  “The British Empire built its greatest monuments out of paper.”  High school English students might moan and question why they should care about reading the works of dead white men, but it is difficult to counter the profound and lasting impact England has made on the literary world.  If you are of the literary sort or at least a history buff, an excellent way to quench that insatiable thirst of knowledge is to pay a visit to the British Library.  This is not simply an institution for checking out a book, it’s a museum of original manuscripts of literature and music if you veer off into “The Treasures.”  Granted, I tend to indulge Jane Austen and Shakespeare more than the average person, so it is beyond my dreams to actually behold original works of these geniuses along with others like Sir Gawain & The Green Knight, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Tess of the d’Ubervilles, or the sheet music of Handel’s Messiah and Mendelssohn’s Wedding March.  If it’s nonfiction you prefer, Leonardo da Vinci’s notebook, international star charts (and the work of Tycho Brahe), Samuel Johnson’s Dictionary, and the Magna Carta are likewise on display.  There is also a large section devoted to world religions; the Gutenberg Bible has dual importance and as a spiritual tome as well as the first mass-printed text in England.  I am restraining myself a great deal from gushing right now; the experience honestly leaves me weak in the knees.

When London Relocation Ltd. assists you in moving to London and working through the less appealing sorts of documentation the modern world has to offer, like tenancy agreements, hop the Tube to King’s Cross station and focus your eyes on what really constitutes the FINE print indeed.

Divided by a Common Language

Lost in translation...

Lost in translation...

If you’re relocating to London, one thing you can be relieved about is that it won’t be that huge of a culture shock–we’re really more similar than different in so many ways, but don’t dare lull yourself into a comfort zone on the basis of already knowing the English language.  As any UK native or American expat will tell you, British English and American English are two different languages, so get out your pocket translator Clark Griswald-style and get to work cracking the code in advance.  Otherwise, you may be setting yourself up for some royal embarassment if you compliment someone on their “pants” rather than their “trousers” or make reference to someone’s “fanny” (it’s not on the side that you think it is…).

To assist, I will provide you will a couple cyber-Rosetta Stones:

The Very Best of British:  The American’s Guide to Speaking British - (written by a Brit)

United Kingdom English for the American Novice – (written by an American)

With common understanding, English, too, can be a language of love :)   Let London Relocation Services help you out further with your cultural transitioning–we’re American-owned, so we speak your language!

London Fog

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

London's reputation for weather has been historically rotten, but I say it's lovely.

London's reputation for weather has been historically rotten, but I say it's lovely.

I emerged from my flat this morning to an overcast yet pleasant morning and walked to the Tube station.  When I then emerged from my destination station, I looked up into rain drops spitting in my eyes.  Over the course of my 5-minute walk to the office, the rain grew heavier then lighter then disappeared altogether.  When I looked out the window a half-hour later, there was sun.  Now, clouds.  No wait…sun.

So here’s the deal.  If you’re not originally from London and looking to move here, you’ve surely heard of its notorious weather.  Fear not.  I have lived here long enough to realise that the bad rap London weather gets is not entirely justified.  Given my above experience within the span of less than an hour, I see where the complaints come from, but still do not find them warranted.  The spring we just enjoyed was gorgeous, with more consecutive days of sunshine than I have ever experienced in the States.  I’m a Chicago native–don’t even challenge me that the weather is worse anywhere else on the globe.  Really.  I come from a land where temperature can shift 40 degrees Fahrenheit over just two days, from 50s and blustery to 90s and humid.  It constantly wreaked havoc on my sinuses, to the point I thought my face would implode.  In London, however, the climate is temperate, consistent, so even if it may get cooler a little earlier in the fall than back home, it’ll never plummet to the freezing depths of sub-zero temps in the winter; rather, at Christmas time, you can still enjoy a splendid day strolling around outside doing your window-shopping.  Sure, it may rain a lot in the fall, but you won’t be trudging through snow and slush come February (okay, with the exception of that fluke snowstorm this year.  Every kid deserves a snow day at some point in their lives, after all).  And when it does rain, it is not typically of the all-day downpour variety–instead, a lighter, often misting shower for a few minutes before the clouds part and there is sun once again.  And so the cycle may continue…lather, rinse, repeat.

The locals are pros, so just follow their lead.  Many just tough it out without head-cover, others produce umbrellas seemingly out of nowhere (mini, portable ones are sold just about everywhere).  Just figure that it’s all good for the skin, an effortless moisturising regimen.  And besides, London Relocation Services will be helping put a roof over your head, so you’ll be dry at home in no time :)

Notting Hill – London Relocation Loves Rosso Pomodoro

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

What a pizza !!!!!!!!

What a pizza !!!!!!!!

Rosso Pomodoro is as close to the real thing as it gets. I say that because I lived and travelled around Italy for a year. All the food is fresh and raw, raw meaning not from concentrate or a can. This is the way food was meant to be prepared. It virtually takes 10 minutes to order, prepare and cook your own pizza. This all can be seen while he makes the pizza right in front of your eyes. You’ll also notice if the weather’s nice you can sit outside and people-watch in view of the rest of the Italian restaurants on Kensington Park Road….

To miss out on the Rosso Pomodoro on your move to Notting Hill would be a great culinary mishap.

Most importantly, they deliver!

London Relocation Loves Frescos on Westbourne Grove in Notting Hill

Fresh like frescos!!!

Fresh like frescos!!!

Easy to eat healthy food in London…yeah right!!!  This is why they call this place the Heathrow injection…
When coming to a new country, especially one that drinks and eats so much crap, it’s important to stick to your diet from your homeland.

Sadly, I think the Americans and Canadians eat healthier food, the Europeans are for sure.

It’s sad but true, I go up and down in weight as everyone does (a normal fluctuation is fine)… Until I went up 20 pounds…!!!!! That’s right!!!! 20 pounds, a stone and then some. (A stone is = to around 14pounds)

So after going home and having tomatos thrown at me… I immediately went back to my old diet…
I cut out the meat and the fried stuff…stopped drinking beer at the pub. Then, started running again and so on…

I found an excellent place to help me eat right…It’s called Fresco’s… Yum! Yum!

More importantly, very healthy, the juice, the food, is all raw foods; everything is made fresh in front of you… Vegetables galore, fruit fantastic… and very lean meats… try the number 12 Veggie smoothy… It’s my favourite.

Westbourne Grove and Its Lovely Food, Flats and Fame – London Relocation

What a Fab Location, Westbourne Grove

What a Fab Location, Westbourne Grove

202 on Westbourne Grove is a delightful place to have Lunch or early Dinner.

It’s shadowed by the wannabe trust-a-farian who creep in to be looked at.
But the food is good and relatively inexpensive. I actually like it around 6 or 7 as the place is empty. The staff is friendly and gossip is good if one decides to speak freely.

I remember when this was an old pub (202) around 1999, and Joseph’s (fine clothing) on the corner was an old gas station.

Westbourne Grove has become an exciting, trendy area for all types.
It really exudes the newness of the area with its Churches that have been modified into million pound apartments and street fronts that have been redone to the highest standards.

Location is important for London Relocation Service as a London move is not cheap. Relocation info is hard to come by, but London Relocation Services gives you that edge to find the perfect home in the perfect area like Westbourne Grove.

Body Works West Gym is also located down a fantastic cool mews called Lambton Place W11.

Check out this area by foot and see that this is an amazing place to set up a flat-find with London Relocation Services.

Thanks again and more scribble tomorrow.
