If you’ve just made the relocation to London or are doing so in the very near future, things are only seeming to get more festive the cooler the temps get!
Tomorrow night (November 17th) from 6:00-9:00pm, the posh London shopping mecca of Bond Street will be closed to street traffic for Vendanges on Bond. A variety of champagne and wine houses will serving up cups-o-cheer as street performers, a Christmas choir, and jazz band play on to set a festive tone for some advance Christmas shopping and watching Bond Street officially switch on its Christmas lights.
Speaking of jazz, bands ongoing now through November 20th is the London Jazz Festival, which originally started in the ’70s as a mere part of the former Camden Festival in north London. Now spread Londonwide for ten days, the London Jazz Festival has become a hub of international jazz talent accessible to everyone at a vast assortment of clubs and concert halls.
Also kicking off this week as of Friday, November 18th is my beloved Hyde Park Winter Wonderland! The Christmas cheer in this popular west London locale is ongoing through January 3rd, so you still have a chance to make it if you’re making your international relocation to London (or visiting) by the end of this year. Bright and musical with carnival rides, live performances, ice skating, gift shopping, and sausages and pretzels washed down with German steins of beer or mulled wine and cider, this Bavarian delight always draws a cheerful crowd.
To further get your holly jollies, London’s Southbank is once again hosting its Christmas Market—this also begins this Friday, November 18th and runs through December 24th, just in time to buy some original gifts by Christmas Eve. The market spans from the Southbank Centre to the London Eye and, similar to Winter Wonderland, is a German-style atmosphere of glühwein (German mulled wine) and bratwurst set to traditional Christmas music. There’s even a carousel at the heart of it for your kiddos if you’re moving to London with a family.
So while it may be tempting to stay snuggled inside your new rented London apartment as the leaves fall, the air cools, and the days shorten, don’t go into hibernation just yet—there’s a winter wonderland out there waiting for you, or, as we like to call it, London!
