Moving to London with Children – International Schools vs. Other UK Options

Author: Colleen

My previous post related to the benefits of expat children attending an international school after an international relocation to London, England. Today, I’ll speak more to what constitutes an “international school” and why you might consider it as a schooling option as you research related London relocation services.

To start, as opposed to a UK state or independent school that enrolls local students and caters to a national UK curriculum, or even an American school or the like that caters to one particular nationality and home curriculum, an international school is one that draws a student population from various nations and makes an effort to recognize that global diversity.

ACS International Schools, for example, enroll students from over seventy countries. In addition to an American curriclum, ACS offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) one, including the IB Diploma Programme for high school students and IB programs for middle and elementary grades as well. The IB was founded in Geneva, Switzerland in the late 1960s to provide a curriculum that could be recognized more universally by global educational institutions. As a result, receiving an education within such a system opens doors to higher education in other countries, not just the one you’re from and the one you’ve just relocated to. As the ACS website says:

Our International Baccalaureate and American curricula provide students with a high quality ‘portable’ education that will stand them in good stead whether they return home, move on to a new country, or stay in the UK.

They also provide supportive relocation services to help students settle into their new community and operate admissions on a rolling basis to take into account that expat families moving to the UK may be here on international assignments with unpredictable time frames.

And, just as with my last post, they’ve got a video for this one, too! Watch and enjoy…

So, as you’re looking into London relocation companies (such as London Relocation right here!) to help you find an ideal London apartment rental for you and your family to move into, ensure that your child has a supportive educational institution to also call home in the UK.
